Moderation ratio: it's defined as the ratio of moderating power to the macroscopic neutron capture coefficient.
A high value of the moderating ratio indicates that the given substance is more suitable for slowing down the neutrons in a reactor.

Properties of the moderator:-

1. It should have high thermal conductivity.
2. It should be available in large quantities in pure form.
3. It should have a high melting point in the case of solid moderators and a low melting point in the case of liquid moderators, solid moderators should also possess good strength and machinability.
4. It should provide good resistance to corrosion.
5. It should be stable under heat and radiation.
6. It should be able to slow down neutrons.

Properties of control rods:-

1. They should have adequate heat transfer properties.
2. They should be stable under heat and radiation.
3. They should be corrosion-resistant.
4. They should be sufficiently strong and will be ready to pack up the reactor almost instantly under all conditions.
5. They should have a sufficient cross-sectional area for the absorption.

মডারেশন অনুপাতকে ম্যাক্রোস্কোপিক নিউট্রন ক্যাপচার সহগ এবং মডারেটিং পাওয়ার এর অনুপাত হিসাবে সংজ্ঞায়িত করা হয়।মডারেশন অনুপাতের মান বেশি হলে প্রদত্ত পদার্থটি চুল্লীতে নিউট্রনগুলিকে ধীর করার জন্য বেশি উপযুক্ত।

মডারেটরের বৈশিষ্ট্য: -

• এটিতে উচ্চ তাপ পরিবাহিতা থাকতে হবে ।
• এটি খাঁটি আকারে প্রচুর পরিমাণে পাওয়া যেতে হবে ।
• কঠিন মডারেটরগুলির ক্ষেত্রে এটির উচ্চ গলনাঙ্ক এবং তরল মডারেটরগুলির ক্ষেত্রে নিম্ন গলনাঙ্ক থাকতে হবে , সলিড মডারেটরগুলিরও ভাল শক্তি এবং দক্ষতা থাকতে হবে।
• এটি ক্ষয় প্রতিরোধি হতে হবে ।
• তাপ এবং বিকিরণের মধ্যেও স্থিতিশীল থাকতে হবে ।
• এটি নিউট্রনগুলি ধীর করতে সক্ষম হতে হবে ।

 

নিয়ন্ত্রণ রডের বৈশিষ্ট্য: -

• তাদের পর্যাপ্ত তাপ স্থানান্তর বৈশিষ্ট্য থাকতে হবে।
• এগুলি তাপ এবং বিকিরণের অধীনে স্থিতিশীল হওয়া উচিত।
• এগুলির ক্ষয় প্রতিরোধী হওয়া উচিত।
• এগুলি যথেষ্ট শক্তিশালী হওয়া উচিত এবং যেকোন পরিস্থিতিতে তত্ক্ষণাত্ চুল্লিটি বন্ধ করতে পারতে হবে।
• শোষণের জন্য তাদের পর্যাপ্ত ক্রস-সেক্শনাল এরিয়া থাকা উচিত।
