Define holding current and latching current? What are the advantages of GTO over SCR?

 

Holding current and Latching current

Holding current: The minimum amount of current required for the device to keep the thyristor "ON" is called holding current.

 

Latching current: The current in which the SCR turns ON is called latching current.

 

The advantages of GTO over SCR are below:

1. GTO Eliminates commutating components in forced commutation, as a result, cost, weight, and volume are reduced than SCR.
2. GTO reduced acoustic and electromagnetic noise due to the elimination of commutation chokes.
3. GTO turn-off firstly than SCR, which means it has high-switching frequencies.
4. GTO provides high efficiency of converters than SCR.

 

হোল্ডিং কারেন্ট: থাইরিস্টরকে "চালু" রাখতে ডিভাইসটির জন্য প্রয়োজনীয় ন্যূনতম পরিমাণ কারেন্টকে হোল্ডিং কারেন্ট বলে.

ল্যাচিং কারেন্ট: যে পরিমান কারেন্টের জন্য এসসিআর চালু হয় তাকে ল্যাচিং কারেন্ট বলা হয়।

 

এসসিআর থেকে জিটিওর সুবিধাগুলি নীচে রয়েছে

• জিটিও ফোর্স কমুটেশনে কমুটেটিং উপাদানগুলি বাদ দেয়, ফলস্বরূপ, ব্যয়, ওজন এবং ভলিউম এসসিআরের তুলনায় হ্রাস হয়।
• কমুটেশন চোকস বিলোপের কারণে জিটিও শব্দ এবং বৈদ্যুতিক চৌম্বক শব্দ কমিয়ে দেয় ।
• জিটিও এসসিআর এর তুলনায় দ্রুত অফ হয়, যার অর্থ এটিতে উচ্চ-স্যুইচিং ফ্রিকোয়েন্সি রয়েছে।
• জিটিও এসসিআরের চেয়ে উচ্চ দক্ষতার কনভার্টার প্রদান করে।
